It’s a Family Fun-Fest at Silver Dollar City
September 25, 2008
A trip to Branson just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Silver Dollar City. This family fun park is filled with entertaining shows, rides and craft demonstrations that you won’t want to miss. Silver Dollar City also hosts special festivals throughout the year that can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike.
When it comes to thrilling rides and attractions, this theme park won’t be outdone. On Thunderation, you can scream your way around on a high-speed runaway mine train. Follow that up by swooping back and forth through the air at 45 miles per hour on The GIANT Swing. Get a belly full of laughs as you make your way through mirrored walls and slanting floors in Grandfathers Mansion. And if you’re a roller coaster enthusiast, you’ll fall in love with the winding looping high-speed Wildfire®. For more spiraling roller coaster thrills, climb aboard the explosive PowderKeg®.
The shows at Silver Dollar City can entertain you for hours. Make sure you catch the Louisiana low country tunes of Cedric Benoit and the Cajun Connection band. For more fun, enjoy the gut-busting humor of “Choctaw Charlie’s Frontier Follies.” The saloon girls and the rest of madcap crew will have you in stitches during this Wild West comedy. If you like traditional country, bluegrass, gospel and western music, you might want to stay for the twangy tunes of the Horsecreek Band.
The demonstrations by traditional craftsmen truly make Silver Dollar City a unique experience. Rex Morton is an artisan who designs and creates beautiful copper pieces like his signature moon-shaped oil lamp. Pam Gresham is a master chip carver who has been featured in a variety of woodworking magazines. And June Ward will bring out your sweet tooth with her delicious candy making.
Depending on the time of year, Silver Dollar City plays host to a variety of entertaining festivals. The Bluegrass and BBQ festival kicks off in the spring, and in the summer, National KidsFest promises fun for children of all ages. The holiday spirit comes to Silver Dollar City during An Old Time Christmas. Other festivals include World-Fest, the National Harvest Festival and the Southern Gospel Picnic.
